Beer Tasting and Meet the Brewer
Melbourne City Mission Fundraiser
If
you're doing good you should feel good about it. And what better way to
feel good than to climb into a cosy bar on a winter's evening and try a
few samples of some of Melbourne's best microbrewed beer?
The 3 Ravens
Brewing Company's Marcus Cox, Head Brewer and beer enthusiast
extrordinaire will be at Fred this Friday, pouring some of his special
stuff and chatting with those who wish to converse with one of
Victoria's best known microbrewers. Come along, pick up some tips, or
just bask in the rosy glow of self-righteousness!
Ah, the doing good bit - all who visit Fred this
Friday, 8th of August, will be asked to make a gold coin donation to
the Melbourne City Mission Homelesssness Campaign 2008. If you want to
you can donate more. Much more! Tax receipts available for those who
want them, and credit card donation slips for those who are feeling
really generous. Have a couple of drinks and then consider how glad you
are that you're not outside somewhere freezing your bits off.
Staff may or may not be wearing pyjamas - and that may change as the night progresses!
Friday, August 8th
Tasting and Meet 7:30 pm onwards
(until Marcus has to go home)
MCM fundraiser all night!

APA Trade Tasting
The 3 Ravens
Brewing Company is launching it's 55 American Pale Ale. The official
launch was July 4th at the brewery premises in Thornbury. Now there's a
follow-up tasting and industry-type session at our own Bar Fred on
Monday, 14th of July. Specially for the occasion a chiller unit is
coming in, so the 55 will be on tap!
There
are rumors of their new winter Black being on the bar as well, and
we've had the opportunity to tipple a special something which could be
the beginning of 3 Ravens aged brews. It was lovely, and at 9+% it will
have the longevity to evolve. Looking forward to that and other goodies
from the 3 Ravens crew.
Officially...

Call us
Beer Geeks if you wish, we don't mind, because we're
pleased to announce that we now have the full Weihenstephan
"core" range, as well as their seasonal Korbinian,
from the world's oldest brewery in Germany. Their original brewing
license was issued in 1040 AD! Acknowledged as a world leader in
quality beer making they have more international beer competition
medals than I care to list.
What it boils down to is... really, really
good beer!
Come. Try. You'll like!

Changes to the menus...
- After trials with the participation of select
customers (thanks guys... free pizza, it was a hard job, but someone
had to do it) we will be adding a few new pizzas to the food menu,
which will shortly also be available online. Then
you'll always know what's on offer!
- Beer and more beer! A collection of new
additions to the fridges, with more arriving shortly. Check the BEER
page and hit the "new beers" link for details as they arrive.

Happy Birthday to the folk at 3
Ravens! The 3 Ravens Brewing Company has just turned five and have
released their brand new 55
American Pale Ale beer to celebrate. A full-bodied, voluptuous APA.
As they say, REAL BEER, REAL LOCAL...
Come in and toast them with one of their
own.

The
brewers
were knee deep in our hops for this special brew; using hops
just harvested from our own vines which were then steeped in our
conditioning vats for months, this is a traditional English style
bitter.
Copper in colour with a strong malt character, balanced by the use of
our
new seasons Willamette and Goldings hops to create a full hop flavour
and
aroma. The complex grain bill provides a full, rich and malty ale that
has
hints of marmalade and lashings of hop resin flavours, finishing with a
peppery spicy note.
